Beginning Acting Technique and Business Acumen for Camera Actors focuses on getting students to stop acting and start reacting to what is happening in front of them. Sanford Meisner's reaction-based technique is perfect for the naturalism of the camera. You will learn to live truthfully under imaginary circumstances, act and deliver text from a place of impulse rooted in other actors' behavior, and become familiar with how to work in front of the lens and embrace the intimacy it demands.
At the same time, you will learn business acumen including headshot and resume building, networking with agents and casting directors, how to find work both as a represented and unrepresented actor, how to explore different markets and kinds of work, how to navigate a business that is full of BS and uncertainty.
Intermediate Acting Camera Technique builds on the acting technique work learned in the Beginning Acting Technique and Business Acumen for Camera Actors class by taking students through the examination of a full-length screenplay, developing a character based on evidence from the script, how to use the language of the camera lens and framing to suit how performances are delivered, and then applying what they’ve learned by shooting a scene from the script with multiple takes and angles.
Instructor Keith Flippen brings his 35 years of acting experience and extensive resume to his teaching, helping students avoid many of the pitfalls that trip up beginning actors and allowing them to anticipate what they will encounter as they pursue a career as a freelance actor in film and television.
